Our story

Welcome to Appletons - Creating joy since 1835

Our history started back in 1835, when Thomas Appleton set up Appletons in Pitfold Mill, Haslemere, and manufactured worsted lace and epaulettes for the military.

We took it over in 2013 and moved operations to Long Crendon in Buckinghamshire, selling just pure British tapestry wool in over 420 colours. This expanded in 2019 when we teamed up with some of the most renowned designers in the UK to create a series of tapestry and embroidery kits.

We've expanded our range to include beginners kits suitable for children and adults alike, Bargello kits and many others -mindfulness and me-time included in each and every one!

We still purchase all our wool from the Yorkshire wool markets and our kits are all designed and assembled in the UK. We take pride in looking after our customers and we love seeing what people have created with our wool. Its a beautiful world and we aim to keep making it a little more beautiful every day.
